Sakraoui Amel ,Salhi Ahlem. (2023), A Theoretical Reflection on the Introduction of English in the Primary School: A Transformation Metanoia?. English language teaching from elementary schooling to Higher éducation: Rethinking the current situation and mapping new era of English language position in Algeria

Résumé: A DrSAKRAOUI Amel/ BADJI Mokhtar Annaba University sakraoui.am@gmail.com Dr. SALHI Ahlem/ Mohamed KHIDER Biskra University ahlem.salhi@univ-biskra.dz As a result of the worldwide process of globalization and its diverse aftermaths, the English language has played an important role in the current educational arena worldwide. Being associated with novel forms of learning in the field of science and information technologies, Algeria has taken the decision of including English to primary schools starting from third year classes in the present academic year 2022/2023. The mastery of English language has become a must given the fact that the demands of the current era place increasingly new demands and challenges for teachers of English to equip primary elementary learners with the required necessary linguistic and paralinguistic skills in the English language. This ideal picture loses sense and essence once confronted with the low satisfaction displayed by most elementary teachers and their apprehension about the overall general academic level of young learners in the primary schools especially that third year pupils had to face other extra difficulties as a result of the introduction of French language simultaneously with English language. Thus, a tremendous disparity exists between objectives and on-the-ground realities; that is, the gap is truly wide between the objectives meant to be attained and what takes place really on the ground.
