In this thesis, the student works on Cormac McCarthy and Larry McMurtry as two major American frontier writers whose novels constitute a good chronological indicator of the varying trends that have shaped the American postmodern Western novel.
Between Form and Function: A Comparative Study of Contemporary Arab American and African American Fiction
In this thesis, the student compares narratives by contemporary Arab American writers such as Rabih Alameddine, Diana Abu Jaber, Laila Halaby and Laila Lalami to African American writers such as Toni Morrison, Yaa Gyasi, Gloria Naylor and Bernice L. McFadden. She focuses on the form in which narratives are structured and the function for which stories are themed.

Islamic feminism portrays Muslim women in a new light uncommonly seen in Western media. Minaret (2005) by Leila Aboulela, Does my head look big in this? (2005) by Randa Abdel-Fattah, The Girl in The Tangerine Scarf (2006) by Mohja kahf, and The Butterfly Mosque (2010) by G. Willow Wilson represent women as independent, intelligent beings who have control over their lives and decisions.

A Postmodern-Postcolonial Study of Globalization in Selected American and Indian Novels
In this thesis, the student investigates the relationship between globalization and postmodernism on the one hand, and globalization and postcolonialism on the other hand. She examines Bret Easton Ellis's Glamorama (1998), Don Delillo's Cosmopolis (2003), Arundhati Roy's The God of Small Things (1997), and Kiran Desai’s The Inheritance of Loss (2006).
