Résumé: To prove more information on the chemical composition of the essential oils of Thymus taxa collected in different Algeria areas, and to determine the effect of harvesting periods on the composition of these essential oils: three Thymus species (T. numidicus, T.ciliatus and T. algeriensis) were collected during two periods of development, the EOs (essential oils) obtained by steam distillation of the aerial parts were analyzed by GC/MS (gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry). During the pre-flowering stage, the RP% (relative percentage) of Eos varied between 1.00% and 1.34% for all the species. The content of EOs increased during the flowering stage and reached particularly 2.10% and 2.85% for T. numidicus (from Berrahal) and T. numidicus (from Tacha), respectively. GC/MS analysis showed that these oils are very rich in oxygenated monoterpenes group (76.96%~82.11%) when the plants were harvested during the flowering stage of growth. Thymol was the major compound in the EOs contained in T. numidicus (Berrahal) and T. ciliatus with more than 39% and 54%, respectively. Thymus numidicus (Tacha) and T. algeriensis EOs were characterized by high content in p-cimene-7-ol (78.06% and 26.98%, respectively). These two chemotypes (thymol and p-cimene-7-ol) are considered as antioxidant and antimicrobial agents providing the basis for many applications in processed food preservation and pharmaceutical products.

(2016), Comparative study of chemical compositions and antimicrobial effect of different genius of Thymus ha. Journal of Applied Pharmaceutical Science Vol. 6 (08), pp. 051-056, August, 2016http://www.japsonline.com

Résumé: The essential oils obtained by steam distillation of the aerial parts of Thymus taxa collected before and during the flowering period in different region of eastern Algeria, were analyzed by gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The extraction yields of essential oils of T. numidicus species are 1.28 % during pre-flowering. This yield is better during the flowering period with 2.85%. T. algeriensis gave extraction yields 1.156 % and 1.79 % in the two periods respectively. T. ciliatus produced oil with yields of 1.002 % before flowering and 1.79 % during flowering. Chromatographic analysis (GC-MS) showed that these essential oils are rich with oxygenated monoterpene compounds with 54.07 % and 80.37% of the composition for T. ciliatis, 61.86 % and 73.02 % for T. algeriensis, 54.48 % and 77.56 % for T. numidicus, corresponding to the two periods mentioned above respectively. The antimicrobial activity was tested against 3 gram positive and gram negative bacterial by the use of the disc diffusion method. The thymus taxa have shown great sensitivity. The three essential oils are effective against Escherichia. coli 22, while essential oil of T. ciliatus obtained before flowering and essential oil of T. numidicus in flowering period are most effective against Staphyllococcus 23.

(2016), an efficient synthesis of 4-hydroxy-9-methoxy-5,11-dimethyl-6H-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-benzo[b]carbazole. Indian Journal of Chemistry : nopr.niscair.res.in › NISCAIR PUBLICATIONS › Research Journals, www.niscair.res.in.

Résumé: In this study new tetracyclics compounds similar to benzo[b]carbazole have been synthesized. Their structures were characterized by IR, 1H and 13C NMR, mass spectral and C/H/N analysis, and correspond to 4-hydroxy-9-methoxy-5,11-dimethyl-6H-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-benzo[b]carbazole and 9-methoxy-5,11-dimethyl-6H-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-benzo[b]carbazole. Initially, we have condensed the 6-methoxy-1,4-dimethyl-9H-carbazole with ethyl 4-chloro-4-oxo-butanoate to end up with ethyl 4-(6-methoxy-1,4-dimethyl-9H-carbazol-3-yl)-4-oxobutanoate using tin tetrachloride as catalyst. After reduction of the carbonyl function, the ethyl 4-(6-methoxy-1,4-dimethyl-9H-carbazole-3-yl)butanoate has been obtained. After the saponification reaction, the intramolecular cyclisation of the acid form in presence of trifluoroacetic anhydride will followed by a reduction of the ketone group by sodium borohydride which led us to formation of hydroxylated compound. Therefore, 9-methoxy -5,11 -dimethyl-6H-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-benzo[b]carbazole is obtained in the intramolecular cyclization reaction of 1,4-dimethyl-6-methoxy-3- (4-oxobutyl) -9H-carbazole.

(2016), Modeling and optimization of naphthalene extraction from fuel oil, application of amixture design. ChemXpress 9(2), 148-155, (2016) : Global Scientific Inc., www.tsijournals.com/journals/chemxpress.

Résumé: The aim of this work was to improve the performance of the liquid-liquid extraction of naphthalene froma fuel phase using amixture composition as extractant. The composition of the extractantmixture was performed by implementing an experimentalmixture designwhere themixing proportions of the three components dimethyl sulfoxide, methanol and phenol, were studied. The response was the effect of the solvent on the extraction yield of naphthalene. The results treated in a statistic way were interesting and showed that the optimumconditions can enhance the yield of extraction until 84.56 % theoretically. An experimental validation of the model in the same conditions had given a yield of 83.48%.

(2014), Variation in the Traditional Knowledge of Curcuma longa L. in North-Eastern Algeria. International Journal of Biological, Veterinary, Agricultural and Food Engineering : International Scholarly and Scientific Research & Innovation,

Résumé: Curcuma longa L. (Zingiberaceae), commonly known as turmeric, has a long history of traditional uses for culinary purposes as a spice and a food colorant. The present study aimed to document the ethnobotanical knowledge about Curcuma longa, and to assess the variation in the herbalists’ experience in Northeastern Algeria. Data were collected using semi-structured questionnaires and direct interviews with 30 herbalists. Ethnobotanical indices, including the fidelity level (FL%), the relative frequency citation (RFC), and use value (UV) were determined by quantitative methods. Diversity in the level of knowledge was analyzed using univariate, non-parametric, and multivariate statistical methods. Three main categories of uses were recorded for C. longa: for food, for medicine, and for cosmetic purposes. As a medicine, turmeric was used for the treatment of gastrointestinal, dermatological, and hepatic diseases. Medicinal and food uses were correlated with both forms of preparation (rhizome and powder). The age group did not influence the use. Multivariate analyses showed a significant variation in traditional knowledge, associated with the use value, origin, quality, and efficacy of the drug. The findings suggested that the geographical origin of C. longa affected the use in Algeria.
